The OpenWalls Arles contest has published its 50 shortlisted images and three finalists based on this year's theme of "Home & Away."

"Together, the images have captured a sense of belonging, escapism and identity," the judges pointed out.

From these images, three finalists have been chosen: Gregory Michenaud, Louise Hagger and Urszula Tarasiewicz.

OpenWalls Arles is an award by 1854 and British Journal of Photography in collaboration with Galerie Huit Arles aimed at creating opportunities for emerging and established photographers.

The 50 Shortlisted Images and Three Finalists of the First OpenWalls Arles Have Been Revealed!

OpenWalls Arles is an award by 1854 and British Journal of Photography in collaboration with Galerie Huit Arles aimed at creating opportunities for emerging and established photographers.

We are pleased to announce the 50 shortlisted images of OpenWalls Arles, which respond to the award's theme: Home & Away. The images have been selected by our international panel of judges, which include Genevieve Fussell, (The New Yorker), Vignes Balasingam (OBSCURA Festival) and Julia de Bierre (Galerie Huit Arles).

Together, the images have captured a sense of belonging, escapism and identity. From these images, three finalists have also been chosen. The finalists, Gregory Michenaud, Louise Hagger and Urszula Tarasiewicz, have been invited to join us at Galerie Huit Arles for the opening, where an overall winner will be chosen.

Exhibition Information

The exhibition will coincide with the 50th edition of Les Rencontres d'Arles, one of the world's most established photographic festivals. The 50 shortlisted images will be displayed as part of a group show in the beautiful 17th century style gallery, situated in the cultural heart of Arles, Galerie Huit Arles.

The gallery will be open from July 1 and open throughout the professional week of Les Rencontres d'Arles. The images will be displayed at Galerie Huit until August 1.
