In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at paired shots during the World Cup, National Camera Day, the Sony FE 135mm f1.8 GM and Johnston returns.

  • Cheers in the U.S. And Tears in France Over a Tense World Cup Quarterfinal presents paired shots captured by Pete Kiehart on the streets of Paris and Jeenah Moon at an outdoor watch party in Brooklyn during the ferocious match.
  • Today is National Camera Day, which "commemorates photographs, the camera and their invention." To observe the occasion "snap a picture of something or someone you enjoy and cherish the memory. Post photos on social media using #NationalCameraDay." Or just wait for World Photo Day on Aug. 19 or Photographer Appreciation Month in October.
  • Roger Cicala and Aaron Closz have been busy Disassembling the Sony FE 135mm f1.8 GM because it failed in the field. "Elements come unglued sometimes. It's rare, but we've seen it occasionally with lenses from every brand," Roger notes.
  • I'm Back, Michael Johnston writes, reporting, "The news about my eye yesterday was as good as it could be." He'll be on half-speed for a while but The Online Photographer has returned.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
