Christie's will hold an extensive auction of photographic prints dating from the 1840s to the present on Oct. 2 in New York. In addition, a special selection of 54 works by 49 artists will be sold to benefit the Aperture Foundation's search for a new permanent headquarters in New York.

Among the artists included in the general auction are Richard Avedon, Diane Arbus, Andy Warhol, Man Ray, Helmut Newton, Alfred Stieglize, Edward Weston, Dorothea Lange, Robert Frank, Larry Sulant, Peter Beard, Imogene Cunningham and more.

Also available will be works by Helmut Newton from the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties as well a grouping of Andy Warhol Polaroids featuring 20th century Pop icons including Diana Ross, Jerry Hall, Grace Jones, Truman Capote and Bianca Jagger.

Works available to benefit Aperture include images by Diane Arbus, Nan Goldin, Robert Mapplethorpe, Alison Rossiter, Meghann Riepenhoff, Hank Willis Thomas and others, all of which were donated by artists, collectors, gallerists and Aperture board members.

Nearly 300 works to be offered in two live auctions on Oct. 2 in New York

NEW YORK -- Christie's has announced the sale of Photographs in New York on Oct. 2, offering a broad overview of the medium's history with examples spanning from the 1840s to contemporary works (total pre-sale estimate: $6,000,000 to $9,000,000). The auction will include iconic property by historically significant artists in the category from Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Weston to Dorothea Lange and Robert Frank alongside contemporary artists from Richard Misrach and Vik Muniz to Larry Sultan and Peter Beard, among others.

Photographs will also include a spotlight section of works by Helmut Newton from the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties as well a grouping of Andy Warhol Polaroids featuring 20th century Pop icons including Diana Ross, Jerry Hall, Grace Jones, Truman Capote and Bianca Jagger.

Additionally, a special selection of 54 works -- photographs, as well as artist portfolios and special editions -- by 49 artists will be sold to benefit Aperture Foundation with proceeds supporting the non-profit's purchase of a new permanent headquarters in New York. Works included in this portion of the sale are by Diane Arbus, Nan Goldin, Robert Mapplethorpe, Alison Rossiter, Meghann Riepenhoff, Hank Willis Thomas and others, all of which were generously donated by artists, collectors, gallerists and Aperture board members (collection estimate: $600,000 to $772,000).
