In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at climate change, how to tell when it's time for a new camera, technological evolution, animating a still, Matt Duclos, Austin Mann and email etiquette.
- Alan Taylor presents 28 images of The Impact of Climate Change on Kivalina, Alaska. "The warming climate has led to troubles such as the accelerated erosion of the land the village sits on, which used to be mitigated by sea ice (which is vanishing) and permafrost (which is melting)," he writes.
- Thom Hogan answers the inevitable question, Is It Time to Replace Your Camera? Depends. On the sensor size of your current camera.
- Kirk Tuck has a thought or two on the shift From dSLR to Mirrorless to Phone Cameras. "Evolution is tricky, especially when you are in the middle of the process," he writes.
- Cristi Kerekes shows How to Animate a Still Photo in Adobe Photoshop:
- How Matt Duclos Modifies Lenses is the first episode of the Lensrentals Podcast, which features Roger Cicala interviewing Matthew Duclos of Duclos Lenses.
- Austin Mann has published his iPhone 11 Pro Camera Review: China. He covers the triple lenses, Night mode, skin tone preservation, Capture Outside the Frame and provides Halide's technical readout. "For me, I've been using iPhone XS and plan to use iPhone 11 Pro because I like the more discreet size and the ability to shoot quickly and easily one-handed," he writes. "The Max is awesome but remains a bit unwieldy for me as a one-handed camera."
- Sarah Begley suggests The Correct Way to Email with seven thoughtful tips.
