In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Arlene Gottfried, Ibarionex Perello, Steve McCurry, evaluating vintage lenses, sourcebooks and an Affinity Photo for iPad discount.
- Miss Rosen presents a selection of Arlene Gottfried's Mesmerizing Photographs of New York in the 1980s. "Rather than play into dominant narratives criminalizing drug users, she humanized them, showing us their pain and their dignity in equal part," Rosen writes.
- Street photographer Ibarionex Perello defines the genre. It's "about seeing, making observations of the world, with or without, the presence of people," he writes.
- Steve McCurry took the new Leica SL2 to China to "find the humanity in every picture."
- Derrick Story advises Don't Toss a Good Vintage Lens Because the Glass Isn't Perfect. He's enjoying a Nikon Series E 70-210mm zoom with fungus beneath the front objective. Can't tell in the images. "Take the big discount and go have fun," he writes.
- In Photo Directories & Sourcebook Review, Amy Cooper examines the differences between them and which provides the highest return on investment.
- Affinity is offering a 50 percent discount on Affinity Photo for iPad at $9.99. Sale ends on Nov. 10.
