In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at another winning photo, Australia, the Panasonic 24-105mm f4.0, the advantages of "real" cameras and iPhone travel photo tips.
- Scott Kelby presents The Winner of the 2019 Worldwide Photo Walk 'Leader Competition' after showcasing the honorable mentions. The winning shot surprised even him, considering where it was shot.
- In The Impossible Scale of the Australian Landscape, Rosie Flanagan highlights several images from the series Strange Bloke by Daniel Müller. The landscape wasn't the only thing that impressed the German photographer. He was "surprised by the way Australia appeared to ignore its own violent past," Flanagan writes. Müller tells her, "You'll find a war memorial in every city celebrating the heroism of Australian soldiers in battles all over the world and yet there isn't a place that celebrates the indigenous people or acknowledges what early settlers did to them."
- Kirk Tuck spends a day At the Blanton Museum With a Panasonic 24-105mm f4.0. "If I stood steady in front of a work of art and worked carefully I could see, in the final images, every tiny crack in a painted surface along with the underlying detail of the canvases themselves," writes. Shooting wide open. It's the dual image stabilization provided by the Lumix S1 with the big zoom lens.
