Leica Camera Celebrates Milestone with Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) Leitz Wetzlar

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Ernst Leitz Wetzlar, Leica Camera is announcing the limited edition Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) Leitz Wetzlar.

In 1869, Ernst Leitz I became the sole owner and managing director of the former Optische Institut in Wetlzar, giving new life to the company with a new name that would elevate to legendary status: Ernst Leitz Wetzlar. In honor of 150 years since this milestone moment in Leica Camera history, the brand is offering a limited edition Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) black-and-white 35mm digital camera featuring the iconic "Leitz Wetzlar" engraving on the top plate, limited to only 150 units worldwide.

With technical specifications identical to the standard Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246), this camera is the modern tool for photographers who live for the aesthetics of black-and-white photography and use it to express their creativity. From the performance advantages of a dedicated black-and-white camera to the intangibles of forcing users to truly think and compose with an eye to the world that eschews color, fully embracing atmospheric monotone imagery, the Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) Leitz Wetzlar proudly wears its historic wordmark and stays decidedly true to its namesake.

The camera is available at Leica stores, boutiques and dealers today for $7,595.
