Matinee: Kate Parker's Girl Scout Photoshoot Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 326th in our series of Saturday matinees today: Behind the Scenes of the Girl Scout Cookie Box Photoshoot.

Ever wonder how they get those Girl Scout Cookie box photos? Atlanta photographer Kate T. Parker reveals all in this 1:48 clip that shows real Girl Scouts posing for the box shots.

Parker is a mother, wife, former collegiate soccer player, Ironman and professional photographer who shoots both fine art projects and commercial work. She also wrote Strong Is the New Pretty, "a celebration of girls being themselves." So this assignment was right up her alley.

The girls themselves are not professional models, Parker acknowledges. So they were a bit shy at first. But their experience as Girl Scouts prepared them to adapt.

They worked together as a team, supported each other and picked each other up, Parker says.

"The best part of this day," one of the girls says, "has been, I think, kind of goofing around with all of the other girls." Which is another way of putting it.

Next time you see a Girl Scout cookie box, you'll know you're looking at real Girl Scouts on the box. And, who knows, maybe that Girl Scout selling you the cookies is one of the models.
