In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Omar Z. Robles, Letizia Battaglia, a deserted Shanghai, Sony World Photography awards and Topaz Labs.
- Puerto Rico, Looking Up Omar Z. Robles returns to the land he once called home when a family member needed surgery. To escape the vigil, he scheduled some shoots with dancers. " Back when I was studying mime at the Marcel Marceau school in Paris, one of my teachers, out of the blue took me aside and said, 'You know, we just don't look up often enough,'" he says.
- Miss Rosen describes How Letizia Battaglia Used Photography in a War Against the Mafia. Battaglia is the subject of a new documentary film, Shooting the Mafia by director Kim Longinotto.
- In A Photo Series Shows a Deserted Shanghai Caused by Fears of Coronavirus, Hakim Bishara presents some eerie recent images from the series One Person City by Shanghai-based American photographer Nicoco.
- The Guardian has published images from the Sony World Photography Awards Shortlist and Finalists.
- In Ongoing Product Value and Paid Upgrades, Topaz Labs CEO Eric Yang announces the era of free product upgrades ends in August. "Despite our best intentions, we found that we weren't focusing as much as we wanted on improving our existing products," he writes.
