In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at trees, sand castles, MacBook Pro ports, a kitchen and natural light.

  • In Among the Trees, Marigold Warner reviews a new London exhibition of 38 artists focused on "the essential roles trees and forests play in our lives and psyches."
  • Grace Ebert present a selection of Modern Sand Castles sculpted by Calvin Seibert that will make you think you're still downtown. Seibert photographed his own work, presumably after washing his hands. And then what did he do? Moved to beach-free Colorado.
  • Jason Snell's Fun With Charts: Vanishing Ports plots the disappearing connections on the 15-inch Apple laptop through the years. Might be fun to chart the rise of ports on accessories hubs during the same period.
  • In Something to Look At, Andrew Molitor deconstructs a kitchen designed by Axel Verdoort in a home owned by Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, who apparently use Grub Hub when hunger strikes. "Of course Kim Kardashian would build a house designed for Instagram and she has," he writes.
  • Rocky Nook is offering 40 percent off Crafting the Natural Light Look by Sandras Coan when you use the code CNLL40 at checkout.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
