In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Charlottenburg, Uzbekistan, Chicago, a monochrome test, Ignacio Palacios, a first camera and a Rocky Nook discount.

  • In Morning at Charlottenburg, Ming Thein visits the 17th century palace with his Nikon Z 7 and a couple of lenses.
  • In Uzbekistan Through the Lens of a Local, Amos Chapple presents the street photography of Anzor "Bukharsky" Salidjanov. They aren't many street shots of the country's public life because, Salidjanov explains, "Photographers were simply afraid to shoot on the street. Any policeman could easily detain the shooter and haul him off to the police station."
  • Chicago photographer Craig Semetko hasn't left his apartment since March 21 but has been keeping a Corona Diary, "a visual diary composed of serene, almost meditative scenes."
  • Kirk Tuck tested the Panasonic S1R and Sigma 45mm f2.8 as a Black and White 'Art' Camera. "It was set to L. Monochrome D, which is a snappy black and white profile (three to choose from). I tweaked the contrast and sharpness parameters to taste. I set the filter effect to either Green or Orange, depending on the subject at hand," he writes. He shot JPEG but processed them in Luminar 4.2.
  • Kevin Raber has A Conversation With Photographer Ignacio Palacios. "There is something that stands out about Ignacio the first time you meet him and that is his infectious smile and a great sense of humor," he writes. "Throw on top of that someone who is a gifted photographer and you will have met Ignacio Palacios."
  • In The Best Camera for Beginners, Jason Row lists six system cameras from six different manufacturers.
  • You can save 40 percent on your purchase during the Rocky Nook Memorial Day Sale when you apply code MEM2020 on the View Cart page.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
