In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Dominik Hildebrandt, Louie Palu, a camera quiz, Art Spiegelman and statute of limitations for copyright infringement.

  • In A Collision of Creativity & Craft, Dominik Hildebrandt suggests "photography is a real form of time traveling." As the brand management specialist at Porsche, he knows something about traveling.
  • In Freezing Cold War: Militaries Move in as Arctic Ice Retreats, Alec Luhn reports on international efforts "to secure geopolitical and commercial interests -- and military ones" with photos by Louie Palu.
  • Jon Sienkiewicz test your knowledge of 10 Cameras by the Numbers. Can you identify the manufacturer by the model number?
  • In Graphic Artist Art Spiegelman on Maus, Politics and 'Drawing Badly', Sam Leith's interview provides cross training for photographers. Spiegelman's effort to make comics into art parallels photography's fight to become legitimate art. But there are also other nuggets throughout the piece. "Style is the difference between a circle and the way you draw it," Spiegelman quotes Picasso. The photographic equivalent? Style is the difference between what something looks like and how you photograph it.
  • In Q&A: Statute of Limitations for Copyright Infringement Claims, Carolyn Wright explains, "Copyright infringement claims have a three-year statute of limitations from the date of the 'last act' of the infringement." Which may start from when you discover the problem.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
