In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Victor Burgin, Lake Como, Carrara, Flickr, Adobe Stock, Ben Sandofsky, Austin Mann, Kirk Tuck's picks, Gmail and a gift guide.

  • The Confounding Work of Victor Burgin explores the British photographer's 1986 book Between of captioned photographic sequences.
  • We escaped this morning to A 19th-Century Villa on Lake Como (if only in a slide show).
  • And Devid Gualandris takes us to the Carrara marble quarries where Hamburg-based photographer Angela Simi has documented the open-air studio of Damascus-born marble artist Usama Alnassar.
  • Flickr's Top 25 Photos in 2020 showcases "photos from around the world that our community loved the most."
  • Adobe Stock curators showcase The Best Imagery of 2020 "to inspire you to think, to connect, to make and to do."
  • In Understanding ProRaw, Halide developer Ben Sandofsky writes, "ProRaw could very well change how everyone shoots and edits photos, beginners and experts alike." The long piece explains what your camera does with exposure data, how Raw files have traditionally been processed and what's special about ProRaw.
  • Austin Mann takes a crack at explaining ProRaw on the iPhone 12 Pro, including why its matters, how to shoot it and the best tools and apps for your iPhone ProRaw workflow.
  • Kirk Tuck presents his List of Cool Cameras and Lenses for 2020. But the delight is in the details. And he provides plenty of them to explain his choices.
  • Yes, Gmail was broken the last couple of days. Sending from and to Gmail accounts resulted in error messages. Late yesterday, the company said they've fixed things. Photo Corners uses our ISP's server for email, so we weren't affected.
  • The Culture Xmas Gift Guide 2020 contains a couple of photographic jewels from Wally Koval and Martin Parr. Not to mention the Billie Eilish signature ukulele.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
