We slapped a new Lensbaby Spark 2.0 on the Nikon D200 yesterday and slipped out to the garden on a rare sunny day this year to see what we could do. We came back with this shot of baby blossoms on a privet.
The lens itself makes no promises but in the cold winter air the privet blossoms that were still in bud did. Things will get better, they seemed to say.
We'll have more to say about the Spark in our full review but we just fell in love with this image.
We like the color, for one thing. The saturated green and unsaturated blues harmonize nicely.
But we also like what the Spark did with focus, blurring everything into oblivion but the tiny buds. Walking by, you might not have noticed them. They're small and dark and sprouting on a thin twig.
You certainly notice them in this image. They stand out. Which is what makes it seem to us like a promise of better times to come.
Promises are easy to make. Vows much hard. Oaths even more. But they all hang like these buds from a slender twig that, we hope, no storm should ever break.
