In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at vaccine centers, Indigenous Photograph, Gary Krueger, the parts supply chain, Lightroom plug-ins and Affinity 1.9.

  • Alan Taylor presents 30 photos of Vaccine Centers in Cathedrals, Stadiums, and Parking Lots. The contrast between foreground and background are stunning. "More than 100 million doses have been administered worldwide so far, with billions yet to come," he writes.
  • In Indigenous Photograph: A Resource for Visual Storytelling, Matt Fidler presents selections from the Web site Indigenous Photograph, which hopes to "bring balance to the way we tell stories about Indigenous people and spaces."
  • In La-La Land: The Playful Side of Los Angeles, Mee-Lai Stone selects a few clack-and-white photos by Gary Krueger, who documented the more amusing side of life in Los Angeles in the 1960s and 1970s.
  • Get Ready to Wait, Thom Hogan writes. "At B&H at the moment, the following high end cameras recently introduced are out of stock: Canon R5, Fujifilm GFX50R, GFX100S, Nikon Z6 II, Nikon Z7 II and of course the Sony A1." And 2021 models may be delayed until next year. The parts supply chain has been constricted by the pandemic.
  • Jasenka Grujin lists The 25 Best Lightroom Plug-ins, many of which run standalone outside Lightroom. She might have added one more: Photoshop itself.
  • Serif has released Affinity 1.9, updates to all of its products. Affinity Photo gains the ability to add non-destructive liquify layers, path text and linked layers. Affinity Publisher adds package output, data merge and PDF passthrough. Affinity Designer gains a new contour tool and select same. Serif revived its free trial and discount pandemic program last month.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
