As alluded to by Nikon's Keiji Oishi in an interview with Barney Britton earlier this month, Nikon officially announced development of the Z 9 flagship mirrorless camera. The company said the Z 9, which is scheduled for release later this year, is "the first flagship model for which the Nikon Z mount has been adopted."

The company said the Z 9 will feature Nikon's best still and video technology, including 8K video, using a newly-developed FX-format stacked CMOS sensor and a new image-processing engine.

Nikon promised to release additional information about Nikon Z 9 at a later date on its Web site. Meanwhile B&H has started a notification list.
