The mural at Laguna Honda Hospital that we featured in a slide show in 2018 has been extended twice since then. It made it to the end of the block several months ago and has continued around the corner.
Now it seems to be inching its way up the hill to cover the rest of the wall.
The section shown here is the latest. Only a week ago, three painters were dabbing on the colors for this section.
In 2018 we didn't expect them to be working on this wall. We thought they'd take it to the intersection and leave it at that. But we're glad to see the painting has continued.
In all this time, there's only been one incident of graffiti (that we noticed) and even that was done in a complementary color. Still, we don't need any further proof of the existence of smaller minds with lesser talent.
According to the Precita Eyes Web site, it took six years to paint the first 600 feet of the mural. District 7 participatory budget funds have paid for the newest segment, which began with a Community Paint Day on Aug. 7.
We're fans of urban murals. They spruce up the place. In addition to this one, we have one in West Portal nearby. They both put a smile on our face when we wander by.
As you can see in the shot above, there's more concrete canvas if funding can be found. We can only hope the project continues up the hill.
