Pixelmator Pro Adds Intelligent Background Removal

In a blog post today, the Pixelmator team announced the release of Pixelmator Pro 2.3 with a new automatic background removal feature, automatic subject selection and a new Select and Mask tool, among other enhancements.
The release was, the post reveals, code named Abracadabra during development "because it's totally magical".
HIGHLIGHTS
Highlights of the new release include:
- Magic Background Eraser. The team has trained "a convolutional neural network" to distinguish between a subject and the background, removing the background automatically. Also available via a Quick Action in the Finder, it can decontaminate colors around the edges of the replacement.
- Select Subject. With one click you can also automatically select a subject.
- Select and Mask Tool. For more challenging subjects like hair, fur and other complex edges, a new Select and Mask tool based on a redesigned Smart Refine has been added.
