We were walking in the wrong direction and shooting into the sun. What could go wrong?

Along the Path. Nikon D300 with 18-200mm Nikkor at 28 (42mm equivalent), f8, 1/500 second and ISO 200. Processed in Adobe Camera Raw.

Just one thing. We walked right by these glowing irises without blooms. We were in a hurry to get somewhere.

Then we put on the brakes.

"Did you see that?" we mumbled incoherently. "Wow."

So we went back, unholstered the camera and lined up the shot. The leaves were lit up brilliantly as they exploded from the earth while the path alongside them tempts the viewer to go on.

Now it's a reminder to stop and shoot the leaves, even when there are no flowers to sniff.
