In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Pamplona, Oleg Oprisco, Rima Maroun, the Sandmarc Tripod Pro and the Godox Lux Senior.

  • The Associated Press presents photos of the Running of the Bulls Festival in Pamplona, Spain. The festival has been on hiatus for two years during the pandemic.
  • Grace Ebert finds Mystery and Disquieting Stillness Pervade the Surreal in Ukrainian photographer Oleg Oprisco's conceptual images. "Relying on neutrals and subdued tones rather than a bold color palette, the mysterious, dreamlike images tend to center on a single figure within a quiet and unoccupied landscape," she writes.
  • In While Standing My Ground, Lebanese photographer Rima Maroun discusses her project of overhead shots during Covid. "I started the series lying on the tiles of an empty swimming pool, then I gradually escaped into nature or into almost abandoned places since most people were inside their houses," she writes.
  • Jason Row reviews the $199.99 Sandmarc Tripod Pro as a lightweight option designed to stabilize a smartphone. With a video head in development. Available for pre-order from Sandmarc.
  • Chris Gampat thinks The Godox Lux Senior Is One of the Most Exciting Flashes of Modern Times especially "if you were a fan of the old Vivitar 283 or Vivitar 285 flash." With its retro dish-shaped reflector, it looks more like something Weegee would have used.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
