In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at photos of the week, Adi Nes, a free midday sun preset, lens flare and a Canon printer sale.

  • Alan Taylor presents 35 Photos of the Week that include "a bird market in Afghanistan, wildfires in several European countries, river surfing in Germany, record-setting heat in England, heavy snow in Argentina, a huge water fight in Spain, an abandoned theme park in Turkey, scenes from the World Athletics Championships in Oregon and much more." The image from the Falmouth Worm Charming Championships put a smile on our face even before we read the caption.
  • In Mythmaking on the Streets of Tel Aviv, Adi Nes gives ancient Greek myths a contemporary twist with his staged images. "If it's a good image, it doesn't really matter if it happened or not," he says.
  • Pei Ketron provides a free Midday Sun Preset for Lightroom to balance harsh contrasts and shadows. "It adds a vignette to darken the edges, too, helping to draw attention to the subject in the photo," she says. "It softens the image overall with negative Clarity and a bit of warmth."
  • In What Is Lens Flare and How to Use It or Avoid It for Better Photos, Jasenka Grujin suggests losing your lens hood can lead to some creative effects when you shoot into the light.
  • Canon is having a summer sale on select Pixma Inkjet Printers with savings up to $60.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
