In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Tour De France, lighthouses, shooting with a projector lens and Georgia O'Keeffe.

  • The Associated Press presents images of the Tour De France from the fans' perspective. "The Associated Press captured the quotidian amid the spectacle, how the race was experienced from inside the quiet spaces and homes that became the setting for the world's most prestigious bicycle race." Open a window, open your door, there go the racers, a few feet from you.
  • In This Photographer Captures Lighthouses Threatened by Climate Change, Michelle San Miguel interviews David Zapatka about his long-term project capturing these disappearing monuments at night (thanks to digital technology). "So, now, here's what you need, new moon or close to it, low tide, slack tide, which means the tide has stopped and no clouds," he tells her. "So why do you think it's taking me eight years to do only 175 lighthouses, roughly?"
  • Feroz Khan interviews Nicholas Madrid about The Unique Images His Projector Lens Makes on his medium format Pentax. "Since it wasn't meant as a photography lens, it doesn't have any coatings and is prone to flaring pretty bad, which is why I use it on overcast days or lower light situations," Madrid says.
  • Harold Davis tells what happened When Georgia O'Keeffe Met Gertrude Stein. He accompanies the text with his own macro shots of roses, occasionally confused online as O'Keeffe paintings.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
