In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Lionesses, Concha De La Rosa, Jan von Holleben, Albuquerque, Austin, noise, Pier 24 and an Excire discount.

  • In England Wins Title at Memorable Women's Euro, the Associated Press presents highlights of the historic win. "A European Championship-record crowd of 87,192 watched England beat Germany 2-1 in the final at Wembley Stadium to cap a tournament full of memorable goals and scenes." The Germans were without their injured star striker Alexandra Popp but they pushed the contest into overtime with a late goal. Chloe Kelly won it for the Lionesses with a determined effort in front of the goal before taking off her jersey to celebrate, recalling Brandi Chastain in 1999.
  • Lara Carretero interviews Concha De La Rosa about her Her Beautiful Street Photographs of the elderly.
  • In Sugar Wow!, Berlin photographer Jan von Holleben shot some "brightly colored, sweet and sticky" sugar products for a special project for the Environmental Photo Festival whose theme this year is "Eat It -- About Food."
  • In ABQ, Wesley Verhoeve interviews London photographer Lewis Khan about his personal project shooting portraits on the streets of Albuquerque, NM. "That aspect of being from abroad was often a talking point," he says, "especially as I spent a lot of time around the edges of the city. People were often just genuinely curious -- what are you doing here?"
  • Kirk Tuck suggests A Passable Leica Q or Q2 Competitor might be a Fuji X100V or a Sony A7 body coupled with their 28mm f2.0 lens. But he put a $300 Contax Y/C Carl Zeiss 28mm f2.8 on a $2,200 Leica SL for a savings of $3,500.
  • Thom Hogan argues it's time to Stop Fearing Noise. He cites DxO DeepPrime and Topaz Labs Denoise AI for their noise processing prowess but there's more to chew on. "Thing is, people have been doing things that make their encounter with noise even worse than it has to be," he writes.
  • Pier 24's Looking Forward: Ten Years of Pier 24 Photography is the second of two consecutive exhibitions celebrating the space's 10th anniversary with a selection of photographs collected by the Pilara Foundation over the past decade. By appointment only.
  • Until August 5, Excire is offering a 20 percent discount on all Excire Bundles. Existing customers can also save 20 percent when buying an additional version.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
