Matinee: 'Antoine Rose, Fine Art Photographer' Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 468th in our series of Saturday matinees today: Antoine Rose, Fine Art Photographer.

In less than a minute, this video shows photographer Antoine Rose both in the gallery surrounded by his large aerial images and at work in the studio printing them on a wide format Epson printer.

Rose is from Belgium where, as a boy, he taught himself photography when he was eight years old.

He became the official photographer of the Kitesurfing World Cup for several years, traveling from South Africa to Istanbul to capture the action. He has shot for major international brands that have commissioned his images to use in their advertising campaigns. But in his latest series, Rose's approach to photography has become more minimalist as he tries to convert ordinary scenes, landscapes or objects into art.

It's those images that will enthrall you.

And, considering how short the video is, you'll want to visit his site to see them at leisure.

But even in a minute you can tell Rose sees the world through differently tinted glasses. Life on planet Earth is a pointillist experience, each of us a colored dot making up a mosaic whose meaning escapes us looking directly across at each other.

Rose sees us, godlike, from above as we bounce into each other or keep our space. And we do amuse him.
