In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Sanna Irshad Mattoo, Pablo Allison, Trevor Pottelberg, Adobe Camera Raw tips, image provenance technology, baby photography tips, more strange things said, anonymity and Discmaster.

  • Mujib Mashal reports India Bars Kashmiri Photographer From Traveling to Receive Pulitzer (gift link). "The photographer, Sanna Irshad Mattoo, was awarded the Pulitzer for her role in coverage by the news agency Reuters of India's devastation last year during the second wave of Covid-19," he writes. "She said immigration officers at the New Delhi airport had pulled her aside on Tuesday and stamped her airline ticket 'canceled without prejudice,' offering no explanation." The Committee to Project Journalists said the decision to prevent Mattoo from traveling was "arbitrary and excessive."
  • In Photographer Documents Immigration and Life Inside Detention Facility, Laura Barrón-López interviews photographer Pablo Allison about the record high two million apprehensions at the U.S. Mexico border in the last year that he has documented.
  • In Forceful Waves Rip Across Lake Erie, Grace Ebert presents Trevor Pottelberg's images of the dramatic formations caused by fall and winter storms with winds up to 60 mph.
  • Julieanne Kost has amassed Over 225 Shortcuts, Tips, and Tricks for Adobe Camera Raw in a 14-page PDF and a long list at the link.
  • Nikon announced it will exhibit a Z 9 at Adobe MAX with Image Provenance Technology detailed by the Content Authenticity Initiative, an Adobe-led community promoting the adoption of secure provenance and attribution data for digital content to counter the rise of misinformation.
  • Jasenka Grujin lists 21 Essential Baby Photography Tips. "Babies are unpredictable, they grow fast and on top of that, they aren't in a photogenic mood all the time," she writes. It's a tough task.
  • Tom Hogan rounds up Strange Things Said XIX, clarifying a few misconceptions along the way. And having fun doing it.
  • Even more amusing, Kirk Tuck has a brief brush with Anonymity in which he's mistaken for ... well, you have to read it.
  • Jason Scott has announced a new Web site called Discmaster to access 91.7 million vintage computer files pulled from CD-ROMs and floppy disks, including extensive image files. The contents of about 7,000 CDs have been posted with about 8,000 more to go. In Major Steps Forward for the CAI, Andy Parson discusses the partnerships with both Leica and Nikon.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
