In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at hopeful images, the Twelve Links of Christmas, the Leica Q2 vs. M and Kawasumi-Kobayashi Kenji.

  • Alan Taylor presents 26 Hopeful Images From 2022. "The following are images from the past year of personal victories, families and friends at play, expressions of love and compassion, volunteers at work, assistance being given to those in need and small and pleasant moments," he writes. It's an annual tradition.
  • In The Twelve Links of Christmas 2022:, Mike Johnston begins a series of pricey presents for photographers (he calls it "a list of a dozen beautiful gifty things in the spirit of the season") that include the Apple Studio, Nikon Z 7II and Ugg Slippers so far.
  • Kirk Tuck explains (at length) Why I Am 'OK' With a Q2 and not tempted by a digital M. "Life is short," he writes. "If we're lucky we get to buy and play with whatever we want."
  • Grace Ebert takes a look at Kengo Kuma's Takahama CafeĢ photographed by architectural photographer Kawasumi-Kobayashi Kenji. Those shots are stunning but we can't help thinking what fun it would be to circle that building to line up a few shots. It's one occasion when we wouldn't mind having a drone in our camera bag.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
