The Consumer Electronics Show kicks off today in Las Vegas as yet another Covid-19 variant has been identified. Several years ago, CES was suspected of incubating the first outbreak of the disease in the Bay area. So once again we are monitoring events in drone mode, so to speak. At a safe distance.

Our caregiving duties not only prevent us from taking small risks but they also provide a unique view of current conditions from the perspective of several home nursing aides fighting the battle on the front lines. It isn't over.

  • Canon has introduced an Immersive Movie Experience. The company partnered with filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan to allow CES attendees "to step right into his upcoming thriller, Knock at the Cabin, using Canon's new imaging technology.
  • Nikon announced development of two new Z prime lenses and has put up a CES page with very little of interest to photographers (which you could say about everyone exhibiting this year).
  • Panasonic has announced the Lumix S5II and S5 IIX full-frame, mirrorless, hybrid photo/video cameras. We'll have more on them later with specifications tables.
  • Sony will hold a press conference at 5 p.m. today to announce its new products.

We'll update this story with links to press releases relevant to photographers while we cover more important product introductions separately, as usual. So stay tuned!
