Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 483rd in our series of Saturday matinees today: Dudley Edmondson -- Art In This Present Moment.

This 3:09 production from the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation examines nature photographer Dudley Edmonson's profile of his cycling buddy Walter Griffin, a photographer of the jazz world.

Those brief descriptions don't do either man justice. They're both multi-talented artists. Edmonson is also an author, film maker and public speaker while Griffin photographs not just jazz musicians but cultural events and dancers, too.

Edmondson introduces himself through his love of nature's soothing experience. The project chronicles Griffin's life.

"I think of storytelling kind of like a Rubik's cube and you get these pieces and you have to figure out how to put them together in just the right way so that they become entertaining and engaging to other people and at the same time respectful of the storyteller," Dudley says.

Other people's stories are more interesting to Edmonson than his own, he says. He hopes telling his friend's story will inspire people to "live their best life" and pursue their own dreams.

The project apparently isn't complete yet but this makes a nice introduction to two accomplished lensmen worth getting to know.
