In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at shepherding, Texas ice storm, Proteus X-ray, pyschedelic cloaking, updating a site and network backups.

  • Paroma Basu followed three Women Swapping City Life for Shepherding in the Pyrenees. They did not leave their smartphones behind, however. Our favorite is of Lizarza Solana sunbathing among her white goats.
  • Kirk Tuck reports on the Central Texas Ice Storm. "Twenty percent of Austin residents are currently knocked out of power! Tree branches and trees are down all over the city. All untreated bridges and overpasses are coated with at least half an inch of ice."
  • Harold Davis shares his Proteus X-Ray image made with a medical X-ray device in collaboration with radiologist Julian Kopke.
  • Kate Mothes shows how These Pyschedelic Garments from Cap_able trick facial recognition software into thinking you're a zebra or giraffe. The company's mission is "to raise awareness and protect the rights of the wearer wherever possible."
  • In Updating My Web Site Portfolio for 2023, Luke Copping throws caution to the wind. "A new logo, color palette and overall look came with a shift in the philosophy of how I wanted to present my work," he writes. "I redesigned the site to put a lot more emphasis on impact and color, letting the bolder images I had been working on stand out."
  • Howard Oakley takes a look at what's different when Backing Up to Network Storage rather than to an external drive.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
