In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the week in photos, Fons Iannelli, a bear, the Leica 35-70mm f4.0 and 7 Mile House.
- Associated Press photo editor Subramoney Iyer curates the Week in Photos from worshippers at an airport in Congo for a Mass with Pope Francis to protests over the death of Tyre Nichols. With a touching mural by street artist TvBoy of two kids in soccer uniforms.
- Flashbak features Fons Iannelli's Intimate Pictures of the Second World War. "A native of Park Ridge, Illinois, Iannelli was tasked with documenting the emotions of the men on the ship and developed his 'fly-on-the-wall' style."
- Amy Gulick has a Close Encounter With a Bear. She got a jolt -- and a photo. "Looking up from the camera, I was startled to see a bear next to me along the stream -- too close for comfort," she writes. "I kept my wits and thought about what to do next."
- Kirk Tuck gets his hands on the famed Leica 35-70mm f4.0. A friend offered it to him for testing and possible purchase before putting it on the market. "So far I like what I see," he writes. Sample images included.
- Joe Kukura reports 7 Mile House Celebrates Its 165th Anniversary with $1.65 Jack Daniels shots and a book about the place by current owner Vanessa Garcia. "Each owner did something illegal. Except for me!" We raise our glass in awe.
