Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?
So we're pleased to present the 486th in our series of Saturday matinees today: Zuma Pictures of the Month.
This January storms caused flooding and mudslides in California while Brazilians rioted in the capital after a Bolsonaro election loss. Those were just a couple of the events that Zuma photographers captured in over a million images last month.
Zuma Press, founded in 1993 by photojournalist Scott McKiernan, is an independent U.S. press agency and wire service that provides editorial photography services. It has a global staff of over 50, covering news, sports, and entertainment events worldwide.
At first, we had the feeling this was a pop quiz on current events as the images flashed by in a couple of seconds. But then it settled down into some wildlife images that transitioned amusingly into fashion shots. And on it went to entertainment, sports and more.
The one complaint we had that actually lingered was that the photos didn't themselves linger more than two seconds. Fortunately, you can view them at leisure (if only as thumbnails) on the Zuma site.
At least until next month.*
