Matinee: 'The Feelings of Injustice' Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

25 February 2023

Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 489th in our series of Saturday matinees today: The Feelings of Injustice.

This 1:30 video presents a selection of images by the Nigerian-born British photographer Misan Harriman depicting the Black Lives Matter movement. The images were displayed at Piccadilly Lights in London last summer.

Harriman is the founder of the What We Seee media agency, which fights extremism with empathy:

Our mission is to surface and amplify uplifting and inspirational stories in a curated stream of the best output from diverse voices, artists, archives and brands to raise the tone of cultural conversation.

These Harriman's photos of the Black Lives Matter protests taken in the summer of 2020 also appeared on the BBC and in Vogue magazine and The Guardian.

For Harriman they represent a "photographic observation of diverse voices, faces and emotions united by pleas to end systemic racism."

The images, which are neither violent nor angry but affirming and positive, are interspersed with inspirational quotes from important figures throughout history.

The perfect way to celebrate Black History Month.
