In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Ernest Cole, Ray Collins, Israeli protests, Kevin Krautgartner, the future and a retro weekend.

  • The Guardian presents images from Ernest Cole's Secret Archive now on exhibit until June 14 at Foam Amsterdam. "The photographer was praised for his tireless coverage of the lives of black South Africans under apartheid, the regime of racial segregation that lasted from 1948 to the early 1990s," the editors note.
  • Heidi Volpe interviews Ray Collins about his Ocean Images for the spring issue of Patagonia Journal. "Sometimes the anticipation of a rising swell of what 'might' happen is more important than the finale of the crashing wave," he says.
  • Mark Murrmann presents Israeli Democracy Under Siege from various sources. "Since late January, hundreds of thousands of Israelis have been loudly protesting an impending judicial overhaul by the nation's new right-wing government," he writes.
  • Kate Mothes features Kevin Krautgartner's aerial photos of Crashing Waves Above Hawaii's Banzai Pipeline. "Going beyond documentation, he focuses on details like structure and form, examining the elemental interactions between light, water and air," she writes.
  • In The Future of Photography, Dave Williams puts it simply, "It's computational." He begins with Samsung's moon photos and ends with a 90-second exposure on his iPhone composed of 90 one-second captures.
  • Derrick Story spent a Crazy Retro Weekend shooting with a 2013 Fujifilm X20.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
