In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Barbara T. Smith, online portfolios, more incomes and Midjourney v5.

  • In The Xerox Machine in the Dining Room, Erin Migdol explores Barbara T. Smith's idea to create art using a Xerox machine. "Fire proved to be the biggest risk of working with a Xerox machine, since the machine generated heat as part of its copy process," she writes.
  • Kirk Tuck muses on the disconnect between An Online Portfolio and the detail your camera can capture. "What clients see on various screens, viewed in mixed light conditions, is nothing like what prior portfolios used to be," he writes.
  • Rob Haggart adds four more photographers to his series Photographers, How Much Do You Make?
  • Benj Edwards looks at AI-Imager Midjourney v5. Improvements include "'incredibly realistic' skin textures and facial features; more realistic or cinematic lighting; better reflections, glares and shadows; more expressive angles or overviews of a scene and 'eyes that are almost perfect and not wonky anymore,'" he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
