In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Frédéric Stucin, Ousman Diallo, an SXSW sideshow, glass bottles, printing, making the Z move, knowing your camera, an outlet adapter and the largest photo.

  • In Le Decor, Frédéric Stucin takes pictures in the streets of Paris during the Corona lockdown. "The nature of the city reminded me of a film set that has been deserted by its crew," he says.
  • In Sunset at the Supermarket, Magali Duzant features the images Ousman Diallo captured revisiting the neighborhoods of his own childhood in New York City. "Mixing group and solo portraits of teenagers in the city with environmental details, Diallo builds the world he is documenting with a cinematic flourish to the warm light and color that envelops his images," she writes.
  • Kirk Tuck took a break from doing his taxes to take his Leica CL with a Sigma i-Series 56mm f1.4 lens downtown to get a series of images of the SXSW sideshow a few hopping blocks of East Sixth St.
  • Harold Davis shows off his Fantastic Iris and White Camellia inspired when, cleaning out his parents' house, he discovered a collection of small glass bottles.
  • In Fine Art Printing Workshops, Kevin Raber tells the story of watching a friend's dad make a print in his home darkroom when he was 13. "To me, a know-nothing 13-year-old, it was mind-blowing," he writes. "I had just seen something I wanted to do and I wanted to learn more about it. I wanted to be a photographer." The piece includes photos of his old darkroom.
  • Thom Hogan answers Some Common DSLR/Z Questions. Three, in fact. Is the move worth it? Is focus better? What happens with strobes?
  • Do You Really Know Your Camera? Derrick Story asks. He lists a few obscure but handy functions of the Ricoh GR III, Fujifilm X100V, OM System OM-1 and iPhone before suggesting some time "on the couch with your owner's manual in hand, exploring the many wonders of your partner in image capture."
  • Scott Kelby fell in love with A European Travel Plug Adapter. It's $14.99 providing two regular 110-volt U.S. style outlets and two USB outlets below them.
  • Andrew Molitor gives The World's Largest Photograph the world's loudest meh.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
