In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Mary F Calvert, Judy Doherty, Andrea DiCenzo, Jane Housham, couple poses and Thom Hogan.

  • Chris Gampat interviews Mary F Calvert, one of the winners of the Leica Women Foto Project. "Providing a voice for people who have been silenced by fear and injustice is an important calling and telling these very personal stories of people who have put their trust in me is not something I ever take for granted," she says.
  • Suzanne Sease features Outsourced, the personal project of Judy Doherty, which explores natural and man-made processes that quickly and slowly change the environment. The project began when Doherty photographed the historical buildings of the Mare Islasnd Navala Shipyard on Mare Island in California.
  • Feroz Khan interviews Andrea DiCenzo about her assignment for the New York Times following the Afghan Robotics girls team that visited the U.S. recently. "We followed their journey for about three weeks as they competed in various robotics competitions across the United States and explored new territories," she says.
  • These layouts of Vintage Toys and Miniatures are constructs of Jane Housham who also photographs these exhibits of personal collection. "There's a feeling I remember which has to do with the seriousness of play, when you were completely absorbed in playing a game with your toys and fully believed in the world you'd created and it really mattered," she says.
  • Jasenka Grujin suggests some Couple Poses "to capture two people in a way that embodies emotion." She lists nine tips to get you started with links to five other articles.
  • In Followup on DPReview Closure, Thom Hogan comments on the difficulty of replicating its forums before he himself vanishes for a month's vacation.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
