In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Barnum, Bailey and Ringling's Circus, a peony, the Aura digital photo frame, more incomes, Instagram and the creator economy.

  • Retronaut presents these images of Barnum, Bailey and Ringling's Circus were taken in the 1940s. Great shot of Emmett Kelly as Weary Willie.
  • Harold Davis photographs a Peony as Big as a Platter on his light box, processing it as a high-key layer stack. Then he tries an L-channel LAB inversion of the image.
  • Dan Moren reviews Aura's Digital Photo Frame. "Of all the standalone devices that I couldn't imagine I'd need in the year 2023, I would have put a digital picture frame near the top," he writes. "But then I had a kid."
  • Rob Haggart adds five more cases to his ongoing series Photographers, How Much Do You Make?
  • Dahlia Ambrose found out How Many People Use Instagram. "Instagram, with over two billion users worldwide, has a lot of users who use the app daily," she summarizes.
  • Paul Melcher contemplates Impact of AI on the Creator Economy Market. Which, in a word, he expects to be "significant." He writes, "AI has the potential to revolutionize the way creators produce and distribute their content and the way audiences consume it."

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
