In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Roger Bamber, Sabiha Çimen, Cari Letelier, being good at something, Lightroom's Book module and Dave Williams.
- In A Life Less Ordinary, Mee-Lai Stone features a few images by photojournalist Roger Bamber, who covered war, politics and music for newspapers from the Sun to the Guardian in the last century. The photos are from a book that are on exhibit at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery until Sept. 3.
- Sophie Wright reviews Hafiz, and exhibit of Turkish photographer Sabiha Çimen's that takes us into the hidden world of young female students training to become the guardians of the Qur’an. "Aged between eight and nineteen, the subjects of the arresting portraits on view are on the cusp of change, deep in the process of figuring themselves out, a process witnessed tenderly through the lens of Çimen's Hasselblad," she writes.
- Chile-based photographer Cari Letelier captured vibrant images of the Aurora Borealis as they lit up the skies above waterfalls, icy expanses and the Arctic Henge.
- In Why Being Good Is Great, Derrick Story admits, "I'm a good writer, photographer, podcaster, educator and musician. But, I am not great at any of these." Still, he's "wildly happy." And admires others who are simply good at what they do. He sneaks in five telling attributes of a "good" photographer, too.
- Julieanne Kost explains Everything You Need to Know About the Book Module in Lightroom Classic:
- In Adobe Firefly and Sensei, Dave Williams uses Firefly to produce images of reindeer and the Lofoten Islands. "You'll notice that these aren't photorealistic examples and that's because I was using the other, arty settings," he notes.
