In January 2022 we published a slide show of the demolition of an old neighborhood home. Once the building was knocked down, the lot was groomed, excavated and left alone for a while.

But this year construction resumed in earnest after pilings had been driven and the hill, also known as Edgehill Mountain, was reinforced at the back of the property. It was quite an engineering feat for a single family residence, more something you see downtown at the construction site for a skyscraper.

With the shell of the new building now up, it's fun to imagine the layout of the building. It's quite a bit different from the original home that stood there for years.

The old building hugged the sidewalk, its top floors modestly peeking out from the walls. It was a friendly design, a welcoming one.

the Old Shell. During demolition.

The new building is imposing, rising above the street is paired blocks that strike us more as an industrial design rather than a residential plan.

In contrast to the warm connectivity of the rooms of the old building, the new one's rooms are isolated from each other in four distinct spaces with a connecting hallway between the two wings.

The old building was apparently not in great shape, although its neighboring building of the same design still looks new.

Neighboring Home. Same design as the old building.

When we saw the demolition in January 2022, we looked forward to what would rise in its place.

But now we're not so sure.
