In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Earth Day, Todd Hido, ethics, lesson from a portrait session and Sunlight Tracker.
- Nathan Lee Allen lists 12 Things Photographers Can Do to Honor Earth Day. The photo contest he mentions seems to be extinct, however. But there are others so it's still 12 things.
- Chris Gampat talks to Todd Hido about The Heartwarming Story of This Photograph available in the current Magnum Square Print Sale. He shot it on a 126 Instamatic camera, a gift from his mother when he was 12.
- Kirk Tucks wonders about the ethics of posting personal information in A Quick Note on Photography Blogging. "As I look over the 5,000+ blog posts I've shared I find that this one itself is so far afield from the subject matter that this channel is supposed to be about," he writes. Well, you take your fun where you can find it.
- A Reddit poster shares Some Things I Learned From My First Paid Portrait/Headshot Session. There are a few solutions to his problems in the replies.
- Nikolaj Jensen has released Sunlight Tracker, a free iOS app to report sun position, day/night length, sunrise/sunset times, golden hour, twilight and more.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look four years back. And please support our efforts...
