In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Tom Leighton, Yevonde, Greenland, Carl Zeiss 28mm Biogon, blur and Adobe Express.
- Kate Mothes presents the Fluorescent Photographs of Tom Leighton's Variegation series. "After the sun fades, the process of photosynthesis stops and respiration begins," he says. "Plants begin to burn their stored sugars and breathe back in some of the precious oxygen they have created."
- Darcy White introduces Yevonde: the Woman Who Pioneered Color Photography. When Vivex color printing process became available in the 1903s, she went all in. "I started experimenting madly," she wrote in her autobiography, "oblivious of the fact that people did not want such things." Yevonde: Life and Colour will be at the National Portrait Gallery, June 22 to Oct. 15.
- Lisa Michele Burns writes about the Cameras I Packed for Greenland, which had to comply with tight luggage restrictions on the small aircraft servicing the area. She stuck to the OM System.
- Kirk Tuck opened the box, put the new Carl Zeiss 28mm f2.8 Biogon ZM on his Leica SL2, turned around and snapped a photo. "Not perfect but fun," he reports.
- Mike Johnston has put out a Baker's Dozen Call for Work: 'Blur'. "There's a prize this time: a $100 B&H Photo gift card for first place and a $50 Amazon gift card for second place," he writes. Deadline is May 8.
- Brain Yap details Adobe Express How-To's for creating and sharing on social media sing Photoshop and Illustrator. "I can pull in my logos, photos and other assets and quickly get them into my social media designs. And I can schedule my posts to go out exactly when and where I want them to," he writes.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
