Almost without our noticing it, the apple tree has blossomed again this year. Sure, we have places to go and things to do but we can always spare a 1/250 of a second to take a shot.

May Blossoms. Nikon D200 with Lensbaby Twist 60 (90mm equivalent) at f5.6, 1/250 second and ISO 200. Processed in Adobe Camera Raw.

Except you know how that goes. One shot isn't enough. Not that we didn't like that first shot but we kept circling the tree trying to find more compositions to arrange.

After seven alternatives, we came back to our original arrangement, shooting it from a slightly better angle. And that's what we chose.

We opened it in Camera Raw, getting the warning that our GPU wasn't enabled and soon we'll need an enabled GPU to use Camera Raw.

We stuck with Adobe Color over Adobe Standard and Adobe Vivid and applied the default adjustments for images shot with this camera as a starting point. Then we tapped Auto to see what Camera Raw thought needed attention and we vetoed a couple of the suggestions.

We wanted to submerge the out-of-focus shadows, not bring out their detail, for example. And we wanted more highlight detail.

For that, we had to use a highlight mask to burn in the highlights. Camera Raw just didn't get us there.

So it was a bit of work to get here. But nothing like growing an apple.
