In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at 100 for the Ocean, Gideon Mendel, the Heipi 3-in-1 travel tripod, Photoshop guides, wedding photography, social media and some answers.

  • Kate Mothes highlights 100 for the Ocean, a month-long fundraiser "to empower those on the frontlines of ocean conservation and to create a powerful, collective voice to impact policy and drive change." This month prints of AndreĢ Musgrove's underwater dives, Dmitry Kokh's polar bears and Caine Delacy's whales are available for purchase with all proceeds going to research charities.
  • Joanna Cresswell reviews Fire/Flood, an outdoor exhibit in London of South African photographer Gideon Mendel's images documenting the climate emergency affecting communities across the world.
  • Feroz Khan tests the Heipi 3-in-1 Travel Tripod, freezing it, submerging it, heating it, loading it up and dropping it. "What's most impressive for me is the patented inbuilt, removable "sub tripod," which doubles as the main tripod's center column when required," he writes. "But pull it out and it turns into a 3-legged desk tripod which can work as a secondary smaller tripod for a smartphone or vlogging camera."
  • Julieanne Kost provides some tips for working with Rulers, Guides, Smart Guides and Grids in Photoshop in this 5:51 video:

  • Derrick Story, who does it for a living, lists five ways Wedding Photography Makes You Better at Everything. You do have to be organized (a shot list helps), too. And remember you aren't officiating the event.
  • In Social Media Evolution, Dave Williams explorea the importance of social media for photographers and provides six tips for making the most of it.
  • Thom Hogan tackles five Questions I Answered on My Month Off. "The following are real questions that my subconscious was mulling over while I spent the month talking to elephants and petting lions," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
