In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Charles III, the week in pictures, photo wallets, picket signs, a gigapixel iPhone print, the Blanton Museum and Imaging Resource.
- The Guardian presents its best photos from the Coronation of King Charles. And the New York Times (gift link) adds a few more. While Nicole Werbeck and Alex Leff show some images of The Last Time Britain Had a Coronation 70 years ago.
- The Associated Press presents The Week in Pictures from a royals fan in London securing his spot on The Mall a week ahead of King Charles III's coronation to Sudanese waiting for evacuation to Saudi Arabia.
- Alice Fisher presents images from a new book exploring A Century of Photo Wallets. More Than a Snapshot showcases Annebella Pollen's collection of envelopes used by film processors. She is a professor of visual and material culture at Brighton University.
- Mandalit del Barco and Becky Sullivan show off The Best Picket Signs of the Hollywood Writers' Strike. Don't mess with a pro.
- In How Big Can It Go, Kevin Raber discusses printing 48-GB Raw images from his iPhone 14 Pro Max. Not just any print but a 44x60-inch gigapixel print.
- Kirk Tuck takes his Leica CL to the Blanton Museum in Austin. "Emboldened by recent experiments with the 'Denoise' function in Lightroom Classic, I set the auto ISO to give me a minimum shutter speed of 1/125th of a second and a maximum ISO of 12,500," he writes.
- Thom Hogan reports Another Photography Site Down. This time it's Imaging Resource, which hasn't published anything since April 18. We've noticed many of the sites that were in the habit of publishing daily have slipped to weekly or even less frequent updates.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
