In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at photos of the week, Translucent Flora, card failure, high contrast histograms and shooting with a phone.
- Associated Press photo editor Anita Baca curates Pictures of the Week from the Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera rolling out the red carpet to election results in Turkey and Thailand.
- Translucent Flora is an exhibit of Harold Davis's light box images of flowers and plants from June through Sept. at the San Francisco Botanical Garden. An artist's reception will be held Sunday, June 1 from 4 to 6 p.m.
- Another SDXC Card Fails for Lloyd Chambers. "This is not the first SD card that has failed me or the first SanDisk to fail physically and I've had SanDisk corrupt files too," he writes. We've been using the same 32-GB Kingston SD card for many years in the one camera we own that uses that format. But we have smaller SanDisk cards that are even older and still serving reliably.
- Jim Kasson continues his histogram series with a look at High Contrast Scenes.
- Rob Wood explains Why You Need to Know How to Shoot With a Phone Camera. Simple really. "Sometimes you have no choice but to shoot with a Phone camera," he writes.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
