In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Bakhmut, Northern Italy, Cannes, the new Gradient tool, sociable photography, bird photography and Apple's camera adapter.

  • The Associated Press reports, "Despite Russian claims to have captured the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, top military leaders in Ukraine insist the grinding nine-month battle there is not over." Satellite imagery shows much of the city reduced to rubble with on-the-ground images by several AP photographers.
  • In Extreme Weather Brings Deadly Flooding to Northern Italy, Alan Taylor presents 23 photos of the destruction that has left over 40,000 homeless.
  • Chloe Mac Donnell has collected the best red carpet looks so far at the Cannes Film Festival.
  • Julieanne Kost covers The Updated Gradient Tool in Photoshop in this 9:54 video:

  • Dave Williams considers The Power of Sociable Photography. "We always meet other photographers and travelers along the way, each with their unique stories and approaches," he writes. "Engaging with them will open our eyes to new possibilities and inspire us to experiment with different techniques."
  • Rob Wood describes Two Types of Bird Photographs: action shots and bird portraits. "Two entirely different types of image that, when put together in a collection, can really round it out," he writes.
  • Joe Rossignol reports Apple's Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter Not Working With iOS 16.5. "The issue is likely due to a software bug that will need to be addressed in a future iOS version, but the underlying cause is unknown," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
