In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Piet Oudolf's gardens, Seb Lester, confusing camera intros, the Leica Q3 and Generative Fill.
- There are some luscious photographs in What Makes a Garden a Work of Art (gift link). Margaret Roach looks at the landscape designs of Piet Oudolf the lenses of a variety of photographers. Do the images not look a little oversharpened?
- Calligrapher Seb Lester makes gilded Aphoristic Prints of popular aphorisms but we were taken with his macro photographs of them.
- In A Confusing Week of Camera Intros, Thom Hogan analyzes the Fujifilm X-S20 and Canon R100 introductions against the smartphone competition.
- Kirk Tuck has been Looking Longingly at the Q3 but more seriously at other camera bodies. The Leica Q3 is not for him. "It's for the person who really, really wants to eliminate all the clutter in their photography life and who really, really likes and uses regularly 28mm lenses to make their preferred art," he writes.
- In The Ethics of Post Processing, Thom Hogan appraises Generative Fill in the latest Photoshop beta. "I have no real problem with fantasy images other than one: I have to know it's a fantasy image as I view it. Otherwise, I'm being deceived.," he writes.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
