In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at clam digging, giant ducks, Hasselblad X2D firmware 2.0, photographers, a Sigma portrait, Epson firmware updates and June opportunities.

  • Álvaro Barrientos documents Spain's Peasant Farmers of the Sea, the mostly women who dig for clams. "Clam collecting in the expansive inlets of Spain's northwestern region of Galicia is a deep-rooted tradition, handed down from generation to generation," he writes.
  • Kate Mothes presents several amusing images of Florentijn Hofman's giant Double Ducks. "The pair represent unity and togetherness, drawing on the symbolism of the symmetrical Chinese characters "囍" (happiness) and "朋" (friends)," she writes.
  • In Hasselblad X2D Firmware 2.0, Jim Kasson evaluates focus peaking, focus bracketing and the live histogram in the new release.
  • Kirk Tuck explains Why I Like Photographers with a quote from Robert Adams. "I have to admit that there is another reason I like photographers -- they don't tempt me to envy," Adams wrote. "The profession is short on dignity. Nearly everyone has fallen down, been the target of condescension (the stereotypical image of a photographer being that of a mildly contemptible, self-indulgent dilettante), been harassed by security guards and dropped expensive equipment."
  • In Philosophical Readings, Mike Johnston shows a recent portrait he took impromptu with his Sigma fp-M.
  • "Due to the continuing chip shortage," Epson has announced changes to the chips in UltraChrome HD/HDX Ink cartridges that require firmware updates to its SureColor P6000, P7000, P8000 and P9000 printers.
  • Colossal lists several June 2023 Opportunities for photographers.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
