In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at children, Mustafah Abdulaziz, Leonardo Sens, Gregory Eddi Jones, dropping a camera, mobile photography apps and a survey.

  • Smile for the Camera! showcase images from 1865 to the present from a new charity show focused on children at play.
  • In On the Arctic and the Interconnectedness of Our World, Devid Gualandris talks to Berlin-based Mustafah Abdulaziz about his ongoing project Water. "I started this project when I was 25. I'm turning 37 next month," Abdulaziz says. "What once drew me to photography isn't the same anymore."
  • Grace Ebert presents Brazilian photographer Leonardo Sens's shot of the moon perfectly nestled within Christ the Redeemer's hands in Rio de Janeiro.
  • In his series 49/23, Gregory Eddi Jones considers the implications of mixing vintage photography and AI-generated images. Liz Sales interviews him about his collage process.
  • In I Dropped a Camera, Kirk Tuck confesses it was all his own fault. And the confesses to miss a glorious excuse to go for an upgrade.
  • Jason Row lists The 12 Best Photography Apps of 2023 for mobile photography. He doesn't mention it but Capture One for iPhone has just been released, too.
  • Mixbook's Survey: The States That Phlush Away the Most Memories found half of Americans say they do nothing with the photos and videos they take on their phones. Some 80 percent have pictures or videos on their phones they haven't looked at since they took them. And only three precent print them. Hmm, but everyone seems to share them.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
