In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at 35 photos of the week, miniature framed family photographs, what to do in a heat wave and Tony Fouhse's photo book.

  • Alan Taylor presents 35 Photos of the Week including flooding in Ukraine's war zone, an art festival in Switzerland, wildfires in Quebec, a surfing competition in the Canary Islands, a Pride parade in Brazil, a rock festival in Denmark and a yachting regatta in England.
  • In Families of Tiny Ghosts Haunt Miniature Coffin Houses and Graveyard Gardens, Grace Ebert showcases the miniatures created (and photographed) by Blacklillybee. The bed of the coffin depicts the graveyard but the lid houses something of a doll house, complete with framed family photographs. Of ghosts.
  • Heat Paralysis hits Kirk Tuck in Austin. "With the outside mimicking the surface of Mercury (the side facing the sun....) I resigned myself to spending the day inside," he reports. Where he found plenty to do. Like depositing checks.
  • Andrew Molitor reviews The Garden by Tony Fouhse. "The book opens with the phrase Once upon a time and closes with happily ever after," he writes. "What we have is a series of magic-imbued places in which magic-imbued characters are doing things that we do not understand." He likes it.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
